Black Film Space is a non profit 501 (c) 3 organization committed to enhancing the careers of Black filmmakers through skill enhancing and community building programming.

Since 2015 we have been actively:

Educating Black filmmakers and actors on the craft and business of filmmaking.
Supporting Black filmmakers and actors with getting jobs and funding their work.
Connecting Black filmmakers and actors with each other and to industry decision makers.
Disrupting the marginalization of Black filmmakers and actors by equipping them with resources and access that have been historically haven't had access to.

Our programs include mentorship, grants, screenwriting accountability groups, skill development workshops panels, community screenings and much more.

There has been some progress in Hollywood over the last ten years, but there is still much more work that needs to be done.

In 2022 there were:

0 Black women that wrote theatrical films
1% Black directors in competition at major film festivals
7% Black streaming film writers
5.6% Black theatrical film directors
2.2% Black theatrical film writers

The film and media industry is in a shift as a result of globalization and emerging technology. We firmly believe that diversity–in people and stories will help the industry thrive. Our vision is to support Black filmmakers with their skill sets so they are equipped to handle challenges they may face.

We are building an ecosystem to support Black filmmakers in whatever direction they choose to go in whether it be Hollywood, independent, internationally, or branded content. We understand that having a professional ecosystem can reduce vulnerability Black filmmakers experience.

A mentorship program that connects 10 emerging filmmakers with 10 industry professionals
Grant Programs
Screenwriting Accountability Groups
Monthly workshops and panels
Community Screenings & Mixers
Online & In Person courses

By 2035 our goal is to:

Support 25 screenwriters and 25 directors get staffed through pipeline programs
Support 25 actors get booked through pipeline programs
Support 100 below the line filmmakers with job placement through productions partnerships. This includes cinematographers, editors, gaffers, sound operators, production designers, costume designers, production assistants, etc…
Fund 10 production companies through seed funding
Fund 10 short films through grants
Fund 5 feature films through grants
Mentor and teach 500 filmmakers young filmmakers (18 and below)
