My Name is Donna Julian and I'm the Board Chair for Big Brother Big Sister of Central Carolina. I have been a board member for five years and I am passionately committed to the agency’s mission. The rising rate of incarceration of our young people and the history of generational poverty in our community are systemic issues which negatively impact their social and economic mobility. Our mission in helping young people who are disadvantaged addresses two key impediments to success in life. We provide avenues to avoid risky behaviors and offer a strong support mechanism to ensure that they graduate from high school with a plan for success.
We strive to empower our youth to realize their full potential. Big Brothers Big Sisters accomplishes this through the engagement of caring, adult mentors. We call them Bigs. Our measured results in reducing the incarceration rate and forging a pathway to graduation are consistently over 90%. Last year, 95% of children in our program avoided the juvenile justice system and 100% graduated from high school with a living wage plan to support their success.
I invite you to join us on August 5, 2020 for our Big Virtual Breakfast. Together as we travel through this new world which is seeking change and racial equality for all, your support of BBBS can have a powerful impact on our community in these challenging times.
Thank you!
