Claudia Williams' Story
As an immigrant and a Spanish native speaker, I know how incredibly hard it is to excel at reading proficiency and writing in a second language. I am fundraising for Aspire! because I want to support an organization that is meeting the needs of immigrant students, who are often learning English, to succeed in school.
Through my work at The Women’s Foundation, I know that reading proficiently by the end of the third grade is one of the early indicators of girl’s economic security. The connections between poverty, reading proficiency and high school graduation rates have been explained by research time after time. Aspire!’s work is crucial not only to support students fulfill their potential through afterschool and summer learning programs, but to help break the cycle of intergenerational poverty.

Thank you for making our first virtual fundraiser such a success! WATCH THE REPLAY BELOW! There is still time to give through October 29th as every donation supports our school day program, providing in-person distance learning support, tutoring, and enrichment. It costs Aspire! $5,400 each day to implement this program for 100 students with social distancing and other health protocols in place. There is currently no public funding support for this kind of effort in Arlington; we are relying 100% on private funding to implement this critical program.
