I started to share my love for playing tennis in 1964 when the Wynne family moved into a home with a tennis court.   We repaired the tennis court before we furnished the living room.  Hundreds of families learned to play tennis on our backyard tennis court.

The asphalt court had a strong history going back to 1929. This history of famous players who had played or practiced on the court included Bill Tilden, Arthur Ashe, Bobby Riggs, Chuck DeVoe, Helen Wills Moody and Alice Marble. Four local junior national champions: Carrie Meyer Richardson, Todd Witsken, Ginny Purdy and Shawn Foltz all developed skills on the court. Most of the players were kids whose biggest accomplishments may have been winning a letter-sweater and making lasting a friendship.

Billie Jean King would have added that the biggest joy probably came from new friends and relationships and just having fun together. I am proud to have taught my favorite sport for over 57 years. I am grateful for the LOVE I have shared with so many families. 

My dream of extending the Barbara S. Wynne Tennis Center at North Central High School into a Tennis Complex with eight indoor tennis courts for a year-round Program CONTINUES. The School Board and MSDWT have approved this concept. Thank you for your donation honoring this dream and making it all a reality for years to come.

I am extremely proud of my 50+ year friendship with Billie Jean King. Believe it or not, I spent one entire night laying the carpet-court at the State Fair Coliseum where Billie Jean King won the 1970 Virginia Slims of Indianapolis.  What we will ALL do for Love of the game.
