Lessons from Meghan- Lessons for All
Laugh often; its free and the best medicine.Love fiercely; leave it all on the table for it doesn't go with you in the end anyways.Competition teaches tenacity, but teamwork creates memories through the lessons on the field, off the court, in the bus and .Put others ahead of yourself.Dance without a care in the world.Give others a chance to shine their light; it wont dim yours. Don't play favorites.
Today, on what would have been my childhood best friend's 42nd birthday, I wanted to share a few thoughts about the light that Meghan was to all who knew her. She was taken from us way too young, but I know she changed the lives of all who were blessed to know her for the better. Truthfully, she still does.
Meghan made our life better by being in this world. The hole that she left cannot be filled, but her life and time on Earth are still teaching others. This I know for I try to live it out every day. She challenged us to see more than our little corner of the world in New England. She challenged us to rise above, to challenge what we were told and to hold on tightly to what we believe in.
In some ways, I feel indebted to Meghan. Those of us who are still here, owe it to her legacy to be better, to love more, to listen and learn every day we are on this planet.
In addition to Meghan being my rock, after losing my own mom at age 13 her home was a safe place for us to gather before dances, after school, when we needed a place to escape. To this day, her mother is a second mother to me and a grandparent to our marvelous trio of girls.
In honor of her 42nd birthday, the school where so many of us learned hard lessons and the sports fields and courts that I learned so much about myself on, I am asking that in this season of spending and gifting, you send a gift in honor of the light that was Meghan. In this season, we are raising funds for The Prout School to continue to educate student athletes. And maybe, just maybe they too will share some of Meg's light wherever they go.
