After assisting a Montclair State University research scientist to train therapy rats for the students, I became aware of the great support that animals can provide to humans to reduce pain, stress, and loneliness. When a group of women were visiting to console my mother's friend, I noticed that Penny Lane was sidled up next to the women, who were petting her incessantly. I overheard one of them suggesting that Penny would make a great emotional support dog (she meant therapy dog)! My mom and I found Creature Comfort Pet Therapy and started training Penny to become a therapy dog. She was a natural! As a CCPT team for the past two years, my mom and I have brought Penny to visit the old and the young, -- at nursing homes, schools, dementia units, and rehab centers -- to bring hope, memories, and smiles to as many as we can.
