Ethan Flaherty's Story
I am excited to continue my work on the Board of a great non-profit, EVkids (www.evkids.org). We are kicking off our primary annual fundraiser - the Expanding Horizons Gala! I hope you will join me at the Gala on November 4th, and that you will help to support the amazing work of EVkids by donating cash and/or auction items for our silent auction!
As you may remember, EVkids matches underserved Boston youth in grades 3-12 with student volunteer tutors from area colleges to create multi-year tutoring and mentoring relationships. In 2023, EVkids is expanding our support to up to 150 tutor-tutee pairs! We are also continuing to grow our college success program - this year supporting 25 EVkids graduates currently attending college!
It has been amazing to see the impact that these one-on-one relationships have on the tutees and the tutors, families, communities, and schools. EVkids provides great training, support, and an intentionally collaborative structure that enables each group to thrive and succeed. Site Directors and Education Advocates at each of our four tutoring sites in Roxbury and Dorchester ensure strong communication and collaboration to tailor the tutoring approach for each student, and a fully remote option to support students who are not able to attend in-person meets them where they are. EVkids also runs a Summer camp in Vermont to give kids in the EVkids community access to the experience and fun of Summer camp living and activities - all at no charge to them.
Please contribute to this worthy cause if you are able! Thank you as always for your support!
