At In Flight, Inc., we empower individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities to reach for their hopes and dreams and support a meaningful quality of life.

We believe that everyone deserves an opportunity to live a meaningful life, filled with purpose and independence. One of the ways In Flight is trying to empower people with intellect and developmental disabilities (I/DD), is by knocking down the barriers that lead to a purposeful and independent life. However, we cannot do it alone.

Individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities have specific needs and behavioral challenges that can hinder their physical and mental health. According to the British Journal of General Practice, mental health disorders are 3 to 4 times more common in people with I/DD then the able-bodied population. Stressors such as over-stimulation can lead to problematic and negative behaviors. To aid in both of these, our PhD lead Clinical department supports our individuals to find healthy outlets. Our Clinical department also supports the goal of community integration and socialization by ensuring those we support develop safe and healthy relationships. As we are a person-centered organization, we know that not all methods work for every person. However, specialized classes and therapies that may help our individuals are not covered.

In Flight acknowledges these barriers and are addressing them by providing essential resources to our program participants. However, we need your support further our vision and make it a reality. Our ambitious goal is to raise $83,000, which will be dedicated to advancing our program participants potential, lead a purposeful life, and be as independent as possible: 

1. Relationship Development: Relationship building comes in multiple forms, such as friendship, romantic, or platonic. Our clinical department has created a course to ensure the safety of our individuals while forming these relationships. Not only are they learning what a healthy relationship is, they are learning about their own needs and wants from the other person as well. Your donation can help us continue to grow this program to cover more niche topics.

2. Theary through the Arts and Nature: Therapy is defined as a treatment to relieve an issue. Yet these treatments can come in many forms such as Art, Music, Gardening, and even Equestrian. With your help, we can provide all forms of therapy options to our individuals so they can not only experience different methods to calm their mind and body, but improve their lives mentally and physically.

3. Nutrition: Our goal is to overcome barriers to healthy living for those with I/DD to promote independence. Many individuals lack the means for nutritional and health education services, as Medicaid covers only basic expenses. To initiate their healthy lifestyle journey, those we support require Mealtime assessments, assessing their food limitations and swallowing abilities, which are not covered by Medicaid. We aim to offer regular Mealtime Assessments to track progress, particularly for those with mobility challenges, and tailor diets accordingly.

As we embark on this exciting journey, we are thrilled to share that we have already raised $10,000 towards our $83,000 goal. However, we need your continued support to reach the finish line and make a lasting impact on the lives of those we serve.
