Jay and Dorothy Federman's Story

This year The Moody Chicks has a new member, Dorothy Federman.  We have lived on Moody Pond for 45 years.  Our three children, Andrew, Sara and Adam, were raised here and spent a lot of time in, around and on the pond in all seasons.  Now our six grandchildren are enjoying it.  The road surrounding the pond is ideal for sauntering, walking, jogging, running, biking, roller skiing and socializing . An added bonus is access to the Baker Mt. trail head.  We must preserve this gem for all to enjoy.  Help us “f- the milfoil” and continue to improve the water quality.

During the 28 days of the challenge Dorothy will walk around the pond 30 times and Jay will climb Baker 9 times, swim across the pond and back 9 times and bike 10 circuits around the pond 9 times. This will provide one day of rest before the social allowing us to eat all the ice cream we desire.

Foil The Milfoil: The Moody Pond Challenge 2021 ICE CREAM SOCIAL

Add to Calendar 2021-08-07 11:00:00 2021-08-07 14:00:00 America/New_York Foil The Milfoil: The Moody Pond Challenge 2021 ICE CREAM SOCIAL 'Foil the Milfoil: The Moody Pond Challenge', is a virtual fundraiser beginning July 10th, and ending with an Ice Cream Social-distancing Celebration on Moody Pond, August 7th. More than 15 teams were creative in their fundraising efforts last year with race walkers, mask makers, canoeists, and milfoil fragment collectors, to yoyo tricksters; and thanks to more than 400 individuals, families, and local business owners who participated, we raised over $22,000. This is truly a testament to the importance of Moody Pond in the lives of our community neighbors. All proceeds from ‘The Moody Pond Challenge’ will be used to benefit the pond directly. At a cost of $1,500 per day for 2-divers and 1-tender, we’ve hired Invasive Solutions Dive Company to begin hand-harvesting and removing the Eurasian watermilfoil beginning in June 2021. We anticipate that it will take several years, with 2-3 weeks of hand-harvesting each year to get the EWM under control. We’re hoping that you will embrace the campaign enthusiastically and sign up to participate by choosing an activity, walking, running, biking, bagging peaks, reading, even sewing masks, anything you can think of, and encourage others to join you as a team or sponsor you. You will have the chance to be creative, to be inspired and to inspire others. Moody Pond is challenging you, and we’re confident you are up to the challenge. Celebrate the conclusion of the event on the pond at 'The Moody Pond Challenge Ice Cream Social'. We'll be serving ice cream, listening to local bands, and holding a silent auction, with items donated by local businesses. Everyone is welcome, and it's FREE for 'Challenge' participants; all others, $2.00 suggested donation. 401 Forest Hill Ave, Saranac Lake, NY 12983, USA
