http://www.sceneonradio.org/se...Dear Friends & Family,

Please consider supporting my participation in HistoryThon during this last week (HistoryThon ends on Sunday, 11/14). A donation of any amount will help support Primary Source's work to ensure that teachers are equipped to educate their students about African American history.

In this year's HistoryThon, I committed to walking 20 miles while listening to audio resources about African American history. I finished Tulsa Burning on Blindspot, and am now close to completing Seeing White on Scene on Radio.  Both are terrific, and the latter is truly remarkable. It focuses on the discussion of race and racism by looking at them from the perspective of whiteness and being white. When we talk about race and racism, we usually think of Black. By flipping the proverbial coin on race and racism gives a much more complete and illuminating history.

In last year's HistoryThon, I explored Bristol's deep and enduring African American history by walking its sites and neighborhoods, including New Goree, a few blocks away. New Goree—the old Goree is an island in the harbor of Dakkar Senegal from which many enslaved Africans were loaded on ships headed to the Americas—is a neighborhood of Bristol where many African Americans lived in the decades of the late 1800s and early 1900s.

Thank you for your support!
