Anupam Mittra's Story

I am an immigrant from Mumbai, India and have been in the US for about 22 years - became a citizen in 2020. My career has been in technology with a focus in the insurance space, which has taken me to most continents - Antartica has no insurance companies, as far as I know.

I met Sam & Tricia in 2017 while I was going through the leadership program with GDMLI. My colleagues and I built the brand that we're currently using. While doing so, I fell in love with the mission and passion I saw from the Gabriels. Initially, I was marketing & IT chair on the board. A couple of years later, I became the board chair and continue to be very passionate about supporting the refugee community. My resolve to be the change became stronger during the pandemic as I saw the struggles first hand in our community.

I'm married to a physician, have two teenagers and a couple of dogs. Besides that, I love to run, bike, climb, travel to the far reaches of the world and discuss politics.

Add to Calendar 2021-10-02 17:00:00 2021-10-02 20:00:00 America/Chicago I Am Africa 2021: Our Home In Iowa What does it mean to be home? Home is a place of safety, acceptance, and community; a place where people are happy to see you. Home can also be a place you had to leave behind in order to find sanctuary and opportunity. Genesis Youth Foundation works to level the playing field for immigrant and refugee youth and families making a new home in the Des Moines metro area. This year’s fundraiser will be an exciting evening for all ages filled with delicious African food, traditional and modern African dance, recognition of student achievements, and storytelling from Genesis kids and parents who are eager to share their stories of creating a home in Iowa. Help us reach our fundraising goal of $20,000 and join the village providing access to opportunity and empowering GYF youth by purchasing your ticket today.
