Update: In the midst of these financial challenges, the Westernport Library was hit by devastating flooding on May 13, 2025, causing significant damage to the building and its collections. Recovery efforts are now underway, adding an unexpected burden to already strained resources.

In May 2024, the Allegany County Library System was informed that we would be receiving a 10% budget cut, or $121,952 less, for the upcoming fiscal year, starting July 2024.

Leadership has made the difficult decision to cut the Collections budget by 16%, or $27,661.
