My name is Jerry and I am a charity running addict. I have completed 12 half marathons, 2 marathons and 1 WDW Dopey Challenge, all for charity. I have recently taken up rucking, as if running is not hard enough. I have a goal of starting and completing the 2021 Bataan Memorial Death March Marathon in March of 2021 at White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico. This marathon is considered the toughest in the world. Not only will I go 26.2 miles, I will do it in combat boots and carrying a 45 pound ruck. If you would like to see updates on my training, and failures, you can follow me on Facebook at Go Ruck Cancer.
I run and I ruck for my kids and granddaughter. I fundraise for me. I simply can not imagine the pain and feeling of helplessness that parents suffer. While I may not be able to help them, I want to do what I can to prevent it from happening to anyone else. I am raising money for the Dragon Master Foundation. I ruck march so that I can remember the lost and honor the suffering. The burden of the ruck weight and distance will never compare to the loss of a child or friend to cancer, but it is what I have chosen to do to show respect and honor the struggle of everyone battling today.
Mostly I ruck for my kids and my friends. Good friends who are battling cancer, beat cancer or have lost children to cancer. And the hope that my kids and granddaughter will never have to suffer. Liam, Nicole, Katie, Amanda, Melody, Leanne and Fitz keep me going more than anything else.
