My financial goal is to provide one child grief support, through our therapy services program, for an entire year. Here is why...
This is my sister, Sandi. Man, do I miss her. Every. single. day. She was a student at IU Bloomington studying psychology when she died in a motor vehicle accident on her way home for summer break. I was sitting at home anxiously awaiting her arrival because I had just opened my birthday card from her and wanted to tell her, in person, how much I loved her. The letter she had enclosed in the card was what every 16 year old girl needed and wanted to hear from a big sister and I was elated!
However, the person that came to our door was not her, but a sheriff's deputy. In that instant, our lives were irreparably changed. For all of us. And it was not pretty for awhile. My family did not have a Brooke's Place and we ALL needed one...me, my parents, my college aged brother, and my eldest sister raising two small children. I am forever grateful that as an adult in 2002, my grief journey eventually lead me to Brooke's Place as a volunteer facilitator. Since that time, my experiences have culminated into a new career for this incredible organization that breathes hope and healing into every child, teen, young adult, and family that participates in our programs. At that end of 2019, the number of individuals served reached 19,000!!!
One such program is our therapy services. I have set a goal of $2,600 that will provide a young person with therapy services for an entire year with one of our credentialed therapists. Will you please consider helping me reach that goal? I want EVERY grieving young person to have the opportunity that I did not....a safe place to share their stories and memories of their loved one. A sacred space to feel supported and understood. A gentle place full of warmth and love where they do not feel alone. Let's do this!! :) Thank you!!
