Thanks to the incredible generosity of our Lake Washington community, we have officially crossed the $50,000 mark—halfway to our $100,000 goal to revive the Marching Kangs!

Now’s the time to finish strong! We’re calling on families, alumni, neighbors, and local businesses to help us power through the final stretch. Every gift—big or small—gets us closer to outfitting our students with the uniforms, instruments, and support they need to shine.

CAMPAIGN LAUNCH 9.8.2025

The LWHS Marching Band started 80 years ago – and it’s been 40 years since LWHS has had a band on the field. For decades, we have missed the rhythm and pride that once united students, families, and neighbors in celebration.

Today, we have a chance to bring it all back.

We’re launching a $100,000 capital campaign to revive the Lake Washington High School marching band—not just as a music program, but as a movement. A movement to restore tradition, give our students a stage to shine, and our community a reason to cheer.

Let's March Down Memory Lane

1944-1945: Debut of the LWHS Marching Band, under the direction of Alfred Bennett.

1974-1975: LWHS Marching Band took the field for the first time since 1967 under the direction of new director Bill Moeller.

1978-79: The band's new director Don Livezey ignites a new spirit.

1980-81: The Marching Kangs are measured for new uniforms.

1981-82: The new, custom-made uniforms debut: Purple pants, tuxedo coats, and the shield capes. (These are the ones we found in the closet!)

1985: Lake Washington High School Symphonic Band Performance (No known recording of marching band after 1985)

1988-89: Pep Band plays in uniform for a basketball game under director Gary Evans. Unclear if the band is still marching.
