One of my favorite childhood memories is of my dad reading to me every night before bed. I'd select a book from the shelf to begin our nightly ritual and off we'd travel to another place or time!
I was very fortunate to have my own collection to choose from, but not all children do. Last year, only 39% of low-income 3rd graders in Washington met the standard for reading - meaning more than 24,000 kids did not.
The 950,000 students that have participated in Page Ahead's programs over the last 30 years, like Book Up Summer, are proof that our research-based programming works - they score anywhere from 5 to 10% higher than similar schools Page Ahead isn't serving yet. These kids absolutely cherish the books they receive and love reading them to younger siblings, too.
Your support helps Page Ahead in our mission to close the literacy achievement gap of at-risk kids, giving them access to stories and worlds they wouldn't have otherwise. Thank you for helping us get books into the hands of so many children!
