Down the brick-paved streets of downtown Sulphur Springs, Texas, beyond the luscious landscaping of its Square and the towering historic buildings dating back to the late-1800’s, is where the hidden treasure of Main Street Theatre rests. Right now, it’s not much to see. The outside is boarded up with plywood, a colorful promotional poster for its recent virtual performance of two Shakespeare classics pinned to them. Walking by you would think it was just one of those “used to be” buildings: “Maybe a restaurant that didn’t work out”, “Maybe a clothing store that couldn’t survive.” Fortunately, you would be wrong.

Main Street Theatre has provided a home to Community Players, Inc for the last 30 years. We cannot deny that the Main Street Theatre has not only excelled in being a platform for the performing arts but in bringing together a community of all ages. It was where New York Times bestselling author Colleen Hoover finished her first novel while sitting on the seats at the theatre watching her son during a rehearsal, skyrocketing her new career.  It is where approximately 35 kids learn the many aspects of theater productions during the Summer Children’s Workshop. It is where adults get to express themselves creatively.

The theatre isn’t just for those with a passion but those with a hint of curiosity to become something else that may be even deeper inside of them. Coming out of the pandemic, there is a greater need now than ever to provide a place for entertainment and reconnection.

In order to Save the Theatre, we ask for the support in returning this landmark of the community back to its former glory so we can continue for an additional 40 years. Who knows - maybe you’ll even take interest in peeking at the curiosity within yourself to participate in one of our future productions.
