Nortfhield High School Helmet Project

A football helmet is the most important piece of safety equipment on the field.  But what kind of helmet should your child use? What’s that helmet’s consumer rating? Are they recertified and/or reconditioned each year?  How old are they?  Hopefully, we can provide some answers.

A few notes about helmets.  First, the lifespan of a helmet is ten years by NOCSAE (safety governance board).  After ten years, the helmet should be disposed of. Second, all helmets are reconditioned/recertified every year, which includes a safety inspection and replacement of aging/defective parts.  Lastly, not all helmets are created equal.

Many of you have inquired about purchasing your son his own helmet (meaning you own it, not the school district).  Parents buying their own helmets will lessen the financial burden on our football program but also ensures that your son gets the exact piece of equipment that you/he wants to wear.

If you venture out to buy your own helmet, ensure that it has the NOCSAE approval stamp on the back of the helmet.  Style-wise, our only requirements are that the color is gloss white, with a navy blue facemask.  We will supply decals.  You will want to educate yourself with the Virginia Tech Helment Safety Ratings, which is the accepted national standard for football helmet ratings for all levels (i.e. NFL, NCAA College, High School, and Youth); link is below.

If you wish to purchase through our football program and leverage district level pricing, we have set up this payment system to collect funds.  The deadline for helmet payment/orders is July 10, 2020.
