After being in Boston in 2013 with the bombings, I promised myself and to those who could no longer compete that one day I would make it back and compete in the Boston Marathon. That's why I started this marathon journey. I'm running the Kiawah Marathon not only for those who were impacted by the bombings in 2013 but for the 13 lives that were cut short during our time in Afghanistan.

Serving in the Air Force has taught me to never take a day for granted and appreciate the little things in life because at any moment the situation could drastically change. I run because it's a passion but also where I found the strength to keep going when things are tough, and to push through the hard times. 

Running is something that is much greater than the action it presents. It teaches us strength, confidence, grit, and willpower. It also brings joy and a community among friends. 

I chose Marathon Kids because this organization has a direct impact to make a difference in kids' lives. They give kids and schools the resources they deserve for physical activity programming, the opportunity to find confidence, and an avenue to find something they can enjoy and create a passion for. 

Fitness and exercise are such a huge part of my life and I hope with this fundraiser I can provide the possibilities for others to have that too.
