Story

Who We Are

Still I Run is a community of warriors determined to take control of our physical and mental health while also breaking the stigma surrounding people that live with a mental illness. We work hard to promote the benefits of running for mental health and we don't just stop there. Still I Run has a variety of programs that work to educate others about running for mental health, raise mental health awareness, provide encouragement to others, and help people experiencing hardship get started in their running journey.

Thanks to New Balance, you can also learn more about Still I Run through the video linked up below!

Running for Mental Health

Running has proved to not only be beneficial for Sasha, our founder, but for many individuals across the country such as:

Tre, a 17-year-old from Pierce County, Washington. Over the summer, he and four other teens in the juvenile court system went through Still I Run's Starting Line Scholarship. We met with the teens, virtually, for 10 weeks as we taught them about mental health, and also helped them train for their very first 5K. (Read more about their journey here)

Stefanie, a teacher, mother, and wife from Georgia. In her application for the Starting Line Scholarship, she indicated she was in need of an adult jogging stroller to push her disabled son. Without that stroller, it was going to be a struggle for her to get out and run for her mental health. Through the program, we were able to surprise her with a stroller.

"I don't even know how to say thank you for the running stroller. I feel extremely blessed to have been awarded such a wonderful gift. I am sincerely overjoyed and this is such a life changer for me."

Hope Short, our Run Chapter Captain in Grove City Ohio. Still I Run supports over 13 run chapters around the country right now, helping individuals run for mental health in safe, inclusive, group settings. For Hope, it's more than just a run chapter, remarking, "I'm thankful for Still I Run because I finally found my group. The weekly meetups have been one of the tools I use to manage my mental health and sobriety through a sense of community and belonging."

How You Can Help

We can't continue our important work without YOUR support. This Giving Tuesday, we have a goal of raising $5,000 which will go directly back to Still I Run. SIR is a primarily volunteer-led organization, so you can take solace in the fact that the majority of your donation helps support our wide array of programming designed to help people get started running for their mental health. Together, we can defeat the stigma!
