Story
Thanks to a state appropriation, the Farmers Market Fund is able to fund SNAP match, in the form of the Double Up Food Bucks program, at farmers' markets in Oregon this season. However, to access these funds, communities are required to provide matching funds. Fresh & Local, First! has taken the lead on this effort for the farmers' markets in Linn and Benton counties.
SNAP allocations were increased during COVID19 to meet the growing needs of families facing job interruption and losses. Continuation of SNAP and unemployment boosts remains uncertain. Small farmers have struggled with the loss of restaurant sales and have had new expenses as they shift gears to reach customers in different ways.
Under non-COVID19 circumstances, we'd be inviting you to join for dine out fundraisers at area restaurants. Maybe we'd be hosting another film screening. Since we can't do those things just now, we're reaching out for help here.
We've made good headway on the local match for the Farmers Market Fund money, but we still need your help. To provide a $10 SNAP match on all market days, all season long, at all markets (Corvallis, Albany, Lebanon, and Sweet Home), we need to raise another $7,000.
Please give what you can and invite others to do so.
