❤️‍🩹 Harley’s Heart Can’t Wait

UPDATE:

Harley’s serious heart condition is causing fluid to build up in her abdomen faster than her body can handle. She’s now needing frequent drains and her kidneys are showing stress because her heart isn’t pumping efficiently.

She has her consult at Texas A&M tomorrow, and one of our amazing volunteers is Ubering her there. If the cardiology team agrees she’s stable enough for surgery, Harley will stay overnight and have the balloon procedure on Wednesday.

This surgery is her best chance — but her medical costs will exceed $4,000, and we are far from that goal.

Sweet Harley’s heart has been fighting harder than it should — and it’s starting to show.

When her family surrendered her recently, they shared that she’d been diagnosed with a heart murmur months ago. The vet drained the fluid from her belly once, but they couldn’t afford the treatment she desperately needed. By the time she reached the shelter, Harley’s abdomen was painfully swollen, her breathing labored, and her heart severely enlarged.

Our vet partner, City Vet White Rock, drained more than 3.5 liters of fluid from her belly — almost a full gallon. Tests confirmed that Harley’s condition is right-sided heart failure, and her heart is now so enlarged it’s crowding her lungs. 💔

She’s now on medication to slow the fluid buildup and is scheduled for an echocardiogram to determine whether a balloon procedure could help relieve the pressure and extend her life. This procedure, done at Texas A&M, can cost up to $4,000, but it could change everything for her.

Harley’s story isn’t over — but she needs us to write the next chapter. 🫶🏻
