Support Westcoast German News

Back in 2007, Elke walked into a bakery on Fraser Street. This Baker was originally German, but had been purchased by a Russian lady. She told Elke the words that changed her life: "Russian Community small. Three papers. German Community big. No papers." As soon as Elke got home "German Voices Vancouver" was born in the form of a 4-page newsletter. As too many people thought voices was referring to singers, Elke soon changed the title to "Westcoast German News." Over the past ten years, Westcoast German News became a blog, a magazine, and used various names: Das Schwarze Brett, European News, Westcoast German News, but it always had the same mandate: sharing Austrian, German & Swiss News from the west coast of Canada and even the US. In January 2019, Elke set up "European News" for Western Canada, to expand her reach to all Europeans living in Canada. She also set up the European News Business Directory, meant to be the biggest Directory for European people, places and products.
