The African American Memorial Conservancy exists to ensure the historic site in Kendleton, Texas remains a beacon of resilience, culture, and community for generations to come. In partnership with Fort Bend County, construction of the 36-acre African American Heritage Monument and Park is well underway, with planned monument dedication in October 2025 and park completion anticipated in early 2026. Located in historic Kendleton—one of Texas’s early freedmen’s towns—the park honors the profound contributions of African Americans, from the era of slavery through the fight for civil rights.

The park will serve as both a memorial and an educational destination, shedding light on stories of perseverance, triumph, and ongoing struggle. Through reflection and community engagement, visitors will be inspired to consider their role in advancing equity and justice.
