AV serves 5,000 NYC residents through the following key programs: African Voices, a literary magazine that has published more than 4,300+ artists; Reel Sisters of the Diaspora Film Festival & Lecture Series, the nation's first Oscar qualifying film festival devoted to women of color; AV Readings, Workshops & Performance Series offers literary readings, artistic workshops, professional forums and art exhibitions at our Brooklyn gallery space.

African Voices serves 26,936 residents in Clinton Hill’s vibrant arts community through an offering of pop up art exhibitions, writing workshops, literary readings, film screenings and other artistic programs.

In 2021, Spelman College, a historic Black women college, acquired the organization’s arts collection. New York Community Trust provided us with the initial funding for the preservation and digitalization of the archives, which includes original art and a catalogue of 7,000+ films by women of color submitted to Reel Sisters over the past 27 years.

We're fundraising to support our archiving project and the overall operations of African Voices during a challenging time of recovering from the pandemic.
