About Us

Blueprints for Pangaea is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that reallocates excess, unused medical supplies from hospitals in the United States to hospitals abroad. Hospitals in emerging nations are often short of medical supplies, while hospitals in the United States annually waste 8.1 billion tons of medical supplies. There is a glaring disparity between surplus and need, and the demand for these supplies greatly outstrips the supply. However, only a small percentage of these materials are sent to hospitals abroad; the rest end up in domestic landfills. The unused medical supplies can be used to support millions of people who are unnecessarily suffering from treatable health conditions simply due to lack of access to basic medical equipment.

Seeing this opportunity in the market to create a sustainable business model with tremendous inherent social good, we seized the opportunity to facilitate the reallocation of supplies. Founded at the University of Michigan in 2014, we have created a network of 9 university chapters united in addressing global health care inequalities. Our process includes collecting, storing, and arranging transport of these supplies to foreign hospitals. In our Ann Arbor chapter, we collaborate with Michigan Medicine by collecting their excess supplies and shipping them to where it is needed. To date, we are proud to have served many communities worldwide including Niger, Myanmar, Dominican Republic, Ghana, and Syria, and have donated over 9 million dollars worth of medical supplies.

When you donate

The money you donate will be used to send a shipment of critical medical supplies to Senegal, supporting hospitals and clinics with sterile gloves, syringes, surgical tools, PPE, and other essential items that would otherwise be wasted. Donations are tax-deductible, and after you donate, you will receive a confirmation email that has the necessary information for your finances and appropriate tax deduction.
