Mindy Andrus, 46, has dedicated her life to caring for others through teaching and family. She grew up in Pender, Nebraska, where she learned the values of resilience, kindness, and community that continue to guide her today.

For the past 20 years, Mindy has been a passionate educator, inspiring countless students and families. She earned her undergraduate degree in Special Education and her master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction. Mindy has made it her life’s work to ensure students with special needs receive the care, attention, and encouragement they deserve. She loves watching her students grow and thrives on helping them find their unique strengths. Currently, she is in her ninth year at Bennington Public Schools, where she is cherished by colleagues, parents, and students alike.

Outside of her career, Mindy’s heart belongs to her family. She lives with her mom, Vickey Nelson, who has been a source of strength and support. She is also a devoted mother to her 15-year-old son, Miles, who is her pride and joy. Mindy’s father, who played an important role in her life, is deeply missed but fondly remembered.

Through her selflessness, strength, and love, Mindy has touched the lives of many. Now, she is facing her biggest challenge yet—Mindy needs a heart transplant.

To support her during this difficult journey, friends, family, and the community are coming together for a Heart Benefit in her honor on Friday, February 6, 2026. This event will celebrate Mindy’s incredible impact while raising vital support for her medical needs.
