Growing up in Columbia, South Carolina, my parents, my older sister and I would frequently travel about an hour and a half to Patrick, South Carolina where my father grew up, to visit his grandmother, Irene Shannon (who raised him as her own son). She was beautiful, intelligent, loving, and I'd be remiss not to say, an excellent cook.
It still doesn't feel quite right to say that we lost her on November 1, 2013, because the reality is that we began to lose her to Alzheimer's long before then. Our visits changed drastically as she slowly began to forget our faces and names.
Witnessing a loved one fade away with each visit was one of the most difficult experiences of my life which is why I'm asking for your help in joining me to raise funds for the Alzheimer's Association Georgia Chapter.
