Save Buttonhook Forest

Mission: Dedicated to saving the 20.3-acre Buttonhook Forest in Chappaqua, NY from development and keeping it forever protected.

Description: A grass roots community effort with a time-sensitive opportunity to do more than just talk about Climate Change, Green Initiatives, Sustainability, Preventing Cultural Erasure and Preserving Native American history. In working to preserve this land we are bringing forward an integrated campaign to educate, to inspire, to teach and to lift up the importance of this sensitive forested ecosystem in the NYC Reservoir Watershed and how it connects with the cultural history of the Native Americans of our area. The goal is to bring together the community (in a private/public partnership) to raise the funds needed to purchase this property from the current owner – the Chappaqua Central School District- to be held as passive open space and an educational space about Native American cultural heritage locally. We are actively seeking organizational endorsers in support of this effort (listed on our website). We are partnering with Native American allies to work to amplify their voice in how this land is preserved and to provide access to them to these sacred places.
