For more than 20 years, the Abbot Fletcher Sailing School (AFSS) has provided Beginner, Intermediate and Racing-level sailing instruction to youth and adults from the greater Bath-Brunswick-Harpswell area. We serve year-round residents, summer residents, and summer visitors.

A typical season sees 70 to 85 students enroll in the program. “Safety and Fun” are our core values, along with the goal of instilling a love of sailing and an appreciation of the Maine coast. Numerous students come back year after year, many have gone on to become instructors, and all have come away with better boating skills and a good summer experience.

AFSS operates under the aegis of Orr’s-Bailey Yacht Club, an all-volunteer Club established in 1954. Tuition covers only a portion of AFSS’s operating budget. For the rest we rely on donations, and on proceeds from our annual auction for which we are soliciting donations.

Most of our students and their parents patronize businesses in the area. Since our auction takes place over a multi-week time frame, donated items are typically viewed by hundreds of potential bidders. Making a donation can provide significant advertising exposure, in addition to supporting what we believe to be a wonderful program with significant broad benefit to the community.
