In 2025, U.S. News and World Report shared a sobering fact: two in five Americans do not have emergency savings, and 40% would not be able to pay cash for a $1,000 emergency. In Douglas County, Nevada, that translates to nearly 20,000 of our neighbors living without a financial safety net. With more than a quarter of the county’s population under the age of 18, that means many of the people most vulnerable in a crisis are children.

This is why, in August 2025, a group of longtime Carson Valley residents decided to take matters into our own hands.

At Carson Valley Magic, we believe every family deserves the stability and dignity of having their basic needs met. That’s why we provide one-time per year financial support to families in Douglas County to help them weather emergencies and stay afloat. Poverty in Nevada affects 12% of residents, with 6% living in extreme poverty—and single-parent households with children are disproportionately impacted. By working together, we can create pathways to safety, stability, and opportunity for families in our community.
