Growing Ancestral Roots began because our families knew what it felt like to be left out. For years, the food system overlooked us—our cultures, our voices, our needs. We were often dismissed, and the foods and traditions that sustained our ancestors were treated as an afterthought.

When the pandemic struck, those gaps widened. Families faced uncertainty, fear, and isolation. But instead of breaking us apart, it brought us closer together. We turned to each other, planting gardens, raising chickens, sharing seeds, and filling food boxes with the flavors and medicines that comforted our families. Every harvest became an act of care, every shared meal a reminder that we were not alone.

Through those challenging days, we built not just food security, but community. We found strength in connection and discovered that our collective power was greater than any crisis. Out of that time grew a deeper commitment to creating something lasting: a circular economy where BIPOC farmers are paid fairly, families feed families, and our cultures thrive.

Today, that vision continues to expand through Culturas Unidas—a space for food, business, and cultural entrepreneurship led by families for families. What began as resilience in the face of dismissal and hardship has grown into a community movement that benefits us all.

We transformed exclusion into belonging, crisis into connection, and scarcity into abundance. Together, we are rooted, we are growing, and we are stronger than ever.
