(CEC) was officially established in 2004, but its roots trace back to 1982 when our founder, Nadine McCrea, saw a need in her community and began her mission to help—right from her own living room. For over 43 years, Nadine has been a tireless advocate, passionately working to improve the socio-economic well-being of residents in Washington Park and surrounding neighborhoods.

What began with a simple act—handing out peanut butter and jelly sandwiches through her home window-has blossomed into a multifaceted organization committed to meeting the essential needs of the community. Today, CEC provides vital support through food access and social service programs:

Mitigation Insecurity Food Programs
Serving multiple neighborhoods annually, this program offers consistent food distribution to ensure families have access to nutritious, healthy meals and critical resources.

Social Service Initiatives
CEC partners with local organizations to address a broad range of community needs, from housing referrals to health access and beyond.
Weekly Food Distribution (Four Days Weekly)
Includes walk-up service, two-day delivery routes, drive-thru distribution, and emergency food box assistance.
Mobile Pantries
Bringing fresh food directly to neighborhoods-reaching hundreds of families each month with mobile distribution events.
Weekly Senior Feeding Program
Serving the elderly in Hollywood by delivering fresh produce and creating moments of social connection.
Animal Food Program
Providing dog, cat, and bird food to clients in need-supporting their beloved furry (and feathered) family members with monthly pet food distributions.
