Bio

My name is Chad Oerman and I am currently a senior attending the University of Northern Iowa! I am majoring in Public Administration with minors in Economics and Ethics. I am involved in a cornucopia of different organizations on campus including Student Government, Kappa Sigma Fraternity, and the Interfraternity Council! What got me interested in spreading the butter was how the crowd funding site allowed more money to go to actual causes that organizations were passionate about, rather than charging outrageous fees. That, paired with it's ability to connect donors who are passionate about the same causes and allowing them to communicate about why they donated made the site really appealing to me!

Q&A

What is the cause that you are most passionate about?

Kappa Sigma's Military Heroes Campaign. This campaign has donated well over one million dollars to the Legacy Seal Foundation, Fisher House, and Wounded Warrior Project.

I love to golf, though I am not too good (but hey, practice makes perfect!) I also like to hike and bike through the many trails Cedar Falls has to offer! Who in your life most inspires you and why?

My best friend and fraternity brother, Jordan. Since day one of joining the fraternity he has never let me forget why I joined and what the purpose of the Organization was: To become a better person. He is truly the most selfless person I have ever met and has a purpose with everything he does. Though him and I don't see eye to eye on every subject, we have always been able to separate business in the fraternity and friendship. This is another life lesson that I have him to thank for. He has taught me to strive for jobs and positions I felt were out of my grasp (and obtain them to my surprise)! I am truly thankful for a friend and role model like him.

What's the best advice you've ever received?

"Don't let people forget why you're there."

What is your greatest achievement to date?

Having to most successful Philanthropy to date with the Fraternity I am involved in. We raised 30x what we had raised in the past thanks to Givebutter and the collective efforts of the Fraternity.

Describe yourself in three words

What does giving mean to you?

Giving is so much more than just handing something to someone. Giving means donating your time, donating your resources (like posting on Facebook, or retweeting important posts, or even spending money on events to raise awareness). In order to raise money and give for important causes, we must raise awareness first by giving time and resources. Even if fundraisers flop, if we raised awareness about a topic we can start a chain that can lead to more fundraisers and more awareness to truly make a difference.
