Duane Scotti's Story

I remember going to dinner with my family and my Uncle from South Carolina who was in town and we were in shock hearing the news on the radio before we ate that day. We couldn’t believe the news and the fact it happened so close to home in our little state of CT.

I remember thinking that this could have been my daughter who was 6 years old and in first grade just like many of the children lost during on this horrific day.

The 𝐑𝐚𝐜𝐞𝟒𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐬𝐞 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐦, which was created by the Kowalski Family in memory of their son Chase, who was tragically killed at Sandy Hook. The FREE 6 Week Triathlon Camp provides a 𝐬𝐚𝐟𝐞, 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡𝐲, 𝐧𝐨𝐧-𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐞𝐧𝐯𝐢𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 to discover the sport! It brings together kids of all different backgrounds and educates them about how to adopt a healthy lifestyle, coaches them to develop a foundation of athletic skills, and inspires them to aim high in sports and in life!

This year, the 𝐂𝐡𝐞𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐫𝐞 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐘𝐌𝐂𝐀has 𝟐𝟔 volunteers doing running/swimming/biking/walking for 𝟐.𝟔 miles per day or some sort of physical exercise for 𝟐𝟔 minutes in memory of the 𝟐𝟔 lives lost in the Sandy Hook shooting.

I am honored to be one of those volunteers to help bring awareness to this light of hope for children coming out of such a horrific tragedy. These funds will help us 𝐡𝐨𝐧𝐨𝐫 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐬𝐞 𝐊𝐨𝐰𝐚𝐥𝐬𝐤𝐢 by providing a FREE triathlon camp for kids aged 6-12.

Please help me honor Chase's memory and create opportunities for our other youth in our community to Stay Active, Stay Healthy, and Just Keep Running!
