Story

My name is Kim Anderson and I am a Benzie County resident who resides in Frankfort. My 15 year old son was diagnosed with Crohn's Disease 3 years ago, when he was 12, and has given himself over 100 shots since his diagnosis to keep the disease from progressing. He has been asked to be the "honored pediatric hero" for Michigan's "Take Steps Crohn's and Colitis Foundation Walk" in Grand Rapids this summer where he will give a speech to hundreds of people about his disease.  This role/speaker will be difficult for him since he does not like being the center of attention but he realizes how important his participation could be to many children with Crohn's. He is dedicated to not letting Crohn's control his life and he received First Team All Conference honors for football this fall, as a sophomore, and had the highest batting average on the baseball team along with All-District Honors for catcher, as a freshman, this past spring. He is someone who young athletes look up to but he will really be able to show those with Crohn's Disease their dreams are not over, like he thought at his diagnosis. His role as the "honored pediatric hero" will touch thousands of people through the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation website as well as the Take Steps Walk. We are so proud he is so motivated, strong, and determined to meet his personal goals.

I believe my role is to raise awareness and money for the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation so they can invent better medications, and eventually a cure, for the millions affected by the disease. I am coordinating the tournament as a fun, family day out, to help with this and am looking for local sponsorships from businesses to help. Any donation amount would be greatly appreciated but I am suggesting team sponsorship at $250 a team (looking to get 60 teams total for the tournament). I am also looking to have community teams sign up for $50 per team. Those who would like to just come watch and eat are just $15 each.

I would love to have your support raising money, and awareness, for this great organization who is constantly working to find better treatments for the millions who have the disease. Please let me know if you have any questions. I would love to hear from you and partner up for this great cause. [email protected] or 231-510-9355
