Bernie's Mittens Raffle - $1 Per Ticket
Wednesday from 12:00 PM - 12:15 PM EDT
This event will be livestreamed on our Givebutter page: https://givebutter.com/ct21
Do you love Takodah, Bernie, mittens, and/or helping kids in need? Then we have a raffle that is perfect for you! Jen Ellis, a Takodah alum (1989-92), made the mittens that inspired that incredible Bernie meme. Jen has generously offered up a pair of Bernie's mittens to raise money for Camp Takodah's Campership Fund. Purchase your $1 raffle tickets by clicking the yellow Donate & Tickets in the top right corner. The live stream of the drawing will take place on May 12 at 12:00 PM ET.
Thank you to everyone who purchased a raffle ticket for "Bernie' Mittens!" And a special thanks to Jen Ellis, a longtime Takodian, who created the original Bernie's mittens and generously donated a pair of mittens to help kids in need attend Camp Takodah this summer. The winner is Lael Oldmixon!
A longtime Takodian has offered to match all donations dollar-for-dollar up to $20,000 between now and May 11... Donate now to double the impact of your donation to Takodah and help even more kids in need attend summer camp!
YMCA Camp Takodah is a family-focused organization. For over a century, we have proudly served multiple generations of families from across the region. Every year we meet a new second-, third-, or fourth-generation camper, staff member, or volunteer. It's always exciting to welcome them and listen as they share their love of camp along with similar memories from years ago.
One such family covers most of the 1960s at Takodah. We are grateful that they have committed to a $20,000 gift. This former camper, leader, and LIT Program Director started his philanthropic journey with our Y by working with his father to raise scholarship dollars to help a young man from Richmond go to Takodah. As the years have passed, he has kept the legacy going and provided the opportunity for many underprivileged kids to have the friendly and fun Takodah experiences that they truly deserve.
We're challenging the Takodah community to match this gift of $20,000 in under 20 days in order to send more deserving kids to camp for Takodah's 105th summer. Time is of the essence... We have until May 11, 2021 at 5:00 PM ET to make a lasting difference for the kids who need the camp the most. Donate today!
Takodah YMCA is elated to be preparing Camp for summer 2021! After a difficult year for everyone, we know kids will need Camp more than ever. We also know that some of our families, like Meghan’s, need a little extra help this year.
Meghan’s dad, Peter, found himself out of work when the pandemic forced businesses and schools to shut down. While Peter is doing what he can to make ends meet, he doesn’t expect to be fully employed until this coming fall.
Knowing that Camp is “one of the best things that has happened” to Meghan, Peter applied for financial assistance this summer, hopeful and determined to give his daughter a sense of normalcy. Like many campers, Meghan loves the spirit of Camp—a place that is friendly to all. She looks forward to waking up to its beauty every morning and to enjoying stress-free (and screen-free) days outdoors with her friends.
Campers like Meghan rely on donations from alumni, families, foundations, and businesses to attend Camp. Financial assistance is only possible because of our donors’ generosity!
As a YMCA, we are committed to not turning any child away because of their family finances. If your family is in a position to do so and you want to help a camper achieve a sense of normalcy, please consider making a donation to Takodah’s 141 Campership Fund before May 15. Every dollar makes a difference!
On behalf of our families, thank you for considering a campership donation to help a deserving child have an incredible experience at camp this summer. We look forward to welcoming everyone back to Camp in 2021, and we can’t do it without your help!
