According to the CDC, "Children and families thrive when they have access to safe, stable, nurturing relationships and environments."

When parents separate/divorce, typically they will go to court for a judge to award custody of the child(ren). Many cases, parents are awarded joint/shared custody. Both parents receive equal parenting time with the child(ren). If the court finds reason to be concerned about the child's well-being or safety around a parent, the court may award primary physical custody to one parent and award the other parent with supervised visitations.

Supervised visitation allows children to reconnect and reestablish the parent/child/family relationship in a safe environment. It provides parents with an opportunity to learn and practice new concepts of parenting. Furthermore, supervised visitation allows DCS and probation to access the relationship between the child and the parent and to assist the parent in strengthening and developing their parenting skills. Supervised visits are designed to assure that a child can have safe contact with the other parent without having to be put in the middle of parents conflicts or other problems.

Children gain self confidence and acceptance from both parents without unnecessary tension. Children having regular contact with both parents is vital and positively impacts a child's physical, mental and emotional well-being. It allows the child to anticipate visitations without stress regarding the conflicts that their parents may have.

All arrangements are made by Family Solution Center staff so there is no need for contact with non-custodial parent. Where conflict may still lie. Supervised visitation allos the custodial parent to relax knowing the visit is being observed closely.

The non-custodial parent gets contact with the child(ren) without interruptions because of problems with the other parent. If allegations have been made against the non-custodial parent, he/she can be sure the supervisors are neutral and are present to verify what happens during the visit.

When supervised visitation is granted by the courts, the only contact allowed with the child(ren) must be supervised. That can be a hard thing to accept. But, imagine if you couldn't afford to pay for that visit? You lose what little contact you were offered with you child(ren), and to some degree the parent/child bond suffers. Unfortunately, this is the reality of to many parents. One out of every four households in our community, are living in poverty. Adding to the financial stress, in 2022 the U.S. saw an inflation rate of 9.1 (between years 1914-2021 US averaged a yearly inflation rate of 3.26) according to bls.gov. A child not having safe access to either parent has proven to be traumatic for a child, affecting their health and well-being, and leading to numerous behavioral problems.

This is why we started the "Better Together" donation drive. Family Solution Center has estimated a need of $9,500.00 annually to fund a "Better Together" discount program. This program will only be offered to parents who can prove their income is below average. Members of this program will receive standard supervised visitation at a discounted rate. Members will also receive 50% off original prices of all parenting and co-parenting classes.
