Every time a news story breaks about toxicity and abuse at a high-profile game company, or harassment by someone in a position of power, we see an uptick in calls to the Games and Online Harassment Hotline. Statements and promises are always made, but like clockwork, wait six months and the same problem resurfaces.
ENOUGH toxicity ruining the gaming experience and the lives of gamers.
ENOUGH driving marginalized people out of jobs in games.
ENOUGH empty apologies.
We demand long-term, systemic cultural change in games. We also know that there are people being harmed who need help right now. And we need your help with both.
We are building a movement to shift the culture in gaming while taking care of community members who are already suffering. When you donate to FemFreq, you are helping us:
Double the hours of the Games and Online Harassment Hotline to support more people in the gaming community, whenever they might need it.
Work towards developing our own independent call center and training program for the Hotline. Our current call center’s capacity means we can’t easily or quickly expand Hotline hours. We need to work towards independence and we’re also eager to work with the many members of our community who have expressed interest in volunteering on the Hotline.
Build out the resource hub on our website so that feministfrequency.com can be a one-stop-shop for victims, survivors, targets, bystanders, and those providing support.
In partnership with Take This, build a training program for gaming companies that will lead to systemic industry-wide transformation. We’ll work with company leaders to shed light on toxicity in their culture and design action plans with them that will help create safer and more representative environments.
Continue to produce our podcasts, videos, and other resources that encourage viewers to critically engage with modern mass media and its relationship to gender, race, and sexuality.
Special thanks to the forward thinking games companies who will match your donation up to $10,000!
