I’m a full-time nurse and a professor. I’ve raised five sons, owned homes, worked hard my whole life — and yet, today, I’m living in an Airbnb. Not on vacation… just trying to survive. I pack up my things every couple of months, not knowing where I’ll go next. I’m 54, and even with a steady job and experience, I can’t secure stable housing. It’s exhausting. And it’s not just me.

There are millions of us stuck in what I call the “middle gap.” We’re not considered homeless, so we don’t qualify for assistance. But we also can’t afford the soaring rent prices, the outrageous application fees, or the upfront move-in costs that keep stacking up. We fall through the cracks — silently, invisibly.

That’s why I created Flying A Sign. It’s a way to fight back. We take forgotten buildings — old motels, churches, or schools — and turn them into shared living spaces where people can rent a room for just $20 a night or even buy it outright as a micro-condo. We call them Condo MiniRooms. It’s not charity. It’s a real solution for people who just need a door that locks and a place to breathe.

This campaign is about purchasing our first building and proving that this model works. I may not have the financial means to do this alone, but I have the vision, the plan, and the lived experience to build something that can change lives. Including mine.
