Georgia Options, Inc was founded in 1991 by a small group of family members, people with disabilities, and other citizens concerned about the well being of adults with disabilities. We are a non-profit organization dedicated to serving people with disabilities and their families in the Northeast Georgia area.

In 1992 we began offering supports to five people and have gradually grown not only in numbers of persons served but also in our understanding of quality supports. Georgia Options is unique in that all people we serve live in their own homes. We help them choose where they want to live. Direct Support Professionals assist people, providing support at varying levels, ranging from a few hours a day to 24/7 support. Our dedicated DSPs provide one-on-one support in all areas of a person’s life, enabling each individual to pursue his or her hopes and dreams, to be active in the community, and to live the best life possible.

Georgia Options was created following the passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, a federal act barring discrimination against persons with disabilities in public accommodations, private employment, and government services. Georgia Options represents the letter and spirit of this law by supporting persons with disabilities in all aspects of community life.

The person that we support is our equal.

The person that we support is a whole person - not broken and does not need to be fixed.

The person that we support is just right the way they are - not deficient.

The person that we support is not “needy” or “in need”.

The person that we support is in the driver's seat and we are the passengers - he or she is not expected to be "compliant".

The person that we support must give consent for us to touch them.

The person that we support communicates with us, even if not with words. It is our job to figure out what the person is telling us.

The person that we support has their own life. Where they have it, we need to help them keep it. Where they don’t have it, we need to help them get it.

The person that we support is capable, and able, with the right support. We are that support. The more they go and do, the less they need to rely on us, the better indication that we are doing our job.
