The South Seattle Emerald is a true gift to our community and I am so grateful to be a part of it. Each publication shares the rich and diverse perspectives of our South Seattle community that you cannot read anywhere else.
I started writing for the Emerald in 2018 when an editor asked if I would write an article for Women's History Month. I was very nervous, but with Marcus' support and confidence in me, I took a leap and wrote the article. Not only did I have the opportunity to write an article about a powerful social justice leader in our community, I rediscovered my love for writing. Even more importantly, I found a place that honored my voice and my perspective as a Woman of Color. I felt my confidence as a writer begin to strengthen. There are not enough words of gratitude to convey how much this has meant for me in my life. This is yet another beautiful gift the Emerald gives....the opportunity for Black, Indigenous and People of Color community members to share their powerful stories and find their voices in ways that traditional media has not allowed. This is gift is invaluable. The Emerald is invaluable.
Thank you for your donation! It allows the Emerald and all the gifts it bestows to flourish.
