Schuylkill Haven was the first Health Schuylkill community. Since 2013 a dedicated coalition of community organizations and individuals have created programs and hosted evidence-based projects to improve the health of the community.
Some of the programs include health fairs, historic and community walks, cooking classes, workshops, and other events. Evidenced-based programs include PA WalkWorks.

In 2019, Schuylkill County's VISION, in collaboration with Schuylkill Haven Borough and partners, broke ground on a community garden!  In 2021 we helped Schuylkill River Greenways keep 300 ft of chainlink fence out of landfills and rehabbed it to enclose the garden!  Through donations of funding, supplies, and volunteer hours we were able to install and facelift the fence.

Entering its fourth season, VISION continues plans to expand the garden and reintroduce Healthy Haven.  We'll be kicking off the season with a garden clean-up and amending the plots with fresh garden soil.  Funds raised will support purchases of garden soil, signage, storage unit, and supplies to expand plots. The remaining funds will be utilized to host educational events at the community garden and other Haven locations.

Select plots are dedicated to Evans Network of Companies, the project sponsor, and the Schuylkill Haven Area food pantry.  This season we are partnering with Jefferson Grange #1384 to expand harvest donation reach and programming.

The remaining plots are made available to community members and organizations for a nominal fee, with others being free for senior citizens (65 and up), veterans, and first responders.   The expansion will make more plots available for residents! Register here to be notified when plots are available and other garden news.

The garden is also the site of educational opportunities and community events.
