Hello friends!

This may come as shock to some of you . . but Ned and I love supporting art and artists.

You may ask why? The list is long (but here is a condensed version)

  1. We are mostly left brained and therefore need to create balance through others.
  2. Ned comes from a very artistic family (but he unfortunately he did not get the gene)
  3. The arts give hope (and who doesn’t need that NOW)
  4. The creative economy has suffered extensively since the start of COVID (2.3 million job losses for creatives totaling $74 billion in average monthly earnings.)
  5. I believe that our community is stronger when the art and artists are able to create.

We are asking you to help us help artists in Charlotte and beyond.

Whether you have $10 or $1,000, please join us in supporting McColl Center, an artist residency and contemporary arts organization in Charlotte. In addition to working with artists from around the world, McColl Center offers subsidized artist studios, access to state-of-the art equipment and virtual classes on the business of being an artist. They also provide paid internships for high school students and programs to tap into creativity during out of school time.

Now is the time to support creativity (because your contributions will be matched dollar for dollar as part of IGNITEMomentum)

I hope you will join me.

Thanks for the consideration.

About McColl Center

McColl Center for Art + Innovation champions contemporary artists and sparks creative experiences for positive community impact. McColl Center advances our mission through Artist Residencies, Exhibitions, Community Engagement, and Education. We envision a community where contemporary artists and an engaged public enhance their creative capacity through relevant, diverse, and accessible experiences.

McColl Center is a nationally recognized artist residency and contemporary art space in Charlotte, NC. Since 1999 we have provided over 420 artists with the time, space, financial support, and opportunities to explore ideas, build community, and grow their practices. We also invite the public to connect with artists through studio visits, exhibitions, public programs, artist-led workshops, and special events.

In addition to the use of studios and equipment in our shared-use spaces and access to 5,000 square feet of exhibition space; McColl Center Artists-in-Residence receive a generous stipend, private housing, curatorial guidance, marketing support, and local transportation. The program is open to local, national, and international artists working in a myriad of creative practices. Each application review panel is comprised of curators, alumni artists, national artists, and arts leaders.

While the residency program is central to our mission, being a resource for local artists is equally important to our core values. In 2020 we launched SPARK, a multi-faceted strategic plan that focuses on meeting artists, and our community, where they are, and a commitment to being an accessible home to artists at all points in their careers. Through SPARK, we renovated two studios to create nine smaller studios that are available for subsidized rent by local artists. We have also developed a Co-op; a coworking model where artists can access the equipment in our labs while building community among and collaborating with their creative colleagues. All too often, space and equipment are a barrier to artistic success; we are committed to working on reducing those barriers for artists.
