Kristin Brooks Hope Center
IMALIVE.org is the world's first virtual crisis center where trained volunteers answer chats from people in a suicidal crisis all over the world. Thousands of people, afraid of picking up the phone to call a suicide hotline, or unable to find a hotline in their area, go online to search for someone who can provide emotional support in their darkest hour.
This year, social isolation, decreased access to mental health and community support and continued uncertainty over the future made IMALIVE more needed than ever.
Our volunteers answer pleas for help from suicidal people around the globe every single day:
"I've thought about wanting to die before. Now it's all I can think about."
"I am starting college this week. My school decided to go completely online and the campus is closed. So I was going to live at home for the first year. Only my parents essentially don't want me to live in their house anymore. So I have to move out but I don't have a license, a car, or anywhere to go."
"I don't feel like I have any hope left."
"I desperately need to talk to someone. I feel like I'm losing my mind."
"I think I've been struggling recently with some kind of undiagnosed mental illness. And I think I just need someone to tell me that these really terrible awful thoughts of suicide aren't going to be permanent in any way."
IMALIVE Volunteers go through 30+ hours of training and practice chats with experienced supervisors before they are able to answer their first chat.
