Keep Knoxville Beautiful's core pillars are clean (litter pickups), green (plantings and environmental education), and beautiful (public art and place making). In 2021, with the help of nearly 4,000 volunteers, KKB removed over 105,000 pounds of litter from our parks, streets, and waterways.

Keep Knoxville Beautiful was established in 1978 prior to the 1982 World's Fair to prepare Knoxville for the influx of visitors. Knoxville was about to be put on the world stage yet it had been deemed the Scruffy City by the Wall Street Journal. At this time there was a large movement behind Keep America Beautiful. Five community members got together and made a local version, the Greater Knoxville Beautification Board, with the mission to promote a cleaner, greener, more beautiful Knoxville. In 1997, the name changed to Keep Knoxville Beautiful. Today, we not only focus on what our visitors see, but also on a higher quality of life for our citizens, which includes cleaner, safer streets, waterways, and neighborhoods.
