For 25 years, La Comunidad’s ESOL and citizenship classes, translation and legal services, youth leadership and community action campaigns have succeeded in increasing networks of support to make a better life for immigrants and refugees in Everett and surrounding areas, winning national recognition for our case management and coalition-building strategies.

Our success in delivering these direct services builds member trust and willingness to participate in grassroots community education. Together with Jobs with Justice, our members raised the minimum wage to $11, put earned sick time on the ballot, stopped deportations and supported public schools. Our 15 year partnership with the American Friends Service Committee and MIRA crafted Safe and Welcoming Cities legislation at the local and state level and delivered Know Your Rights trainings to 1,000 residents annually. Everett Community Growers, who have created 2 community gardens and a 1/4 acre farm that employs residents in growing healthy food.

Committed to serving the ongoing needs of our members, we envision a pathway of leadership towards immigrant representation in local, state and national political offices and an increase in small business opportunities, especially for women and youth in our membership.

We seek partnerships and funding to support our members as they have supported us.

Demand for our services has increased 36% since 2016. We currently serve 4,450 families a year, offering:

ESOL and citizenship classes (300 students/year)

A 95% success rate in approved Federal legal status applications (950 clients/year)

Immigration law forums for one-on-one legal assistance (1,000 residents/year)

Small businesses and workforce development training, tax and translation services (2,200 residents/year)

A youth leadership team of 13-15 local high school students who engage the community in education and advocacy campaigns

Community forums with local police and city officials, led by members, who share their stories and offer policy recommendations to protect and serve all residents

Our goals for 2025 include:

Host free technology training programs in our new computer lab with support from the Massachusetts Broadband Institute
Engage small business owners and renters in energy conservation workshops twice a month, supported by Electrify Everett and MassSave
Support Everett Public School students and parents' School Committee
Launch a women’s entrepreneurial

Embark on a capital campaign to
fund new ground-floor accessible
office in Everett
