Story

We are the Minorities in Sports, Alpha Chapter located on the campus of the University of Missouri-Columbia. We have created this fundraiser in order to participate in a once in a lifetime experience. The purpose of our organization is to unite minority students pursuing sport industry careers. Our goal is to prepare students with additional resources and development opportunities to enable their success.

MiS Mizzou was the first chapter chartered for MiS Next in March of 2017. Since then, the chapter has grown to a 22-student membership and has a 4-member advisory board consisting of university faculty and athletic department administrators. The purpose of the chapter is to heighten the success of minority students pursuing careers in the sport industry to increase representation in an industry that lacks diversity. MiS Mizzou strives to meet this goal through campus programming, community engagement, professional mentorship, and career development opportunities. Our members are passionate about everything in the sport industry from management, legal representation, and marketing to broadcast, finance, and game operations.

We have been presented the amazing opportunity to go on a networking trip to Philadelphia and New York City, two of the biggest sports communities in the nation.  While on this professional development trip, we plan to participate in the following:

  • Professionals in Sports Night at Wells Fargo Center
  • Ultimate 76ers Experience
  • MiS Next Chapter Conference @ Temple University
  • Corporate Visits in NYC
  • Madison Square Garden facility tour
  • Community & Network Engagement

To do this we need your help!

Being the first collegiate Minorities in Sports chapter, we need grassroots efforts to reach our ambitious goals. We are requesting $9,000 and would like to thank those who help support our trip or share this fundraiser. Anything you can contribute will be greatly appreciated! This trip will be uniquely life changing as we further ourselves into the sport industry.

Your contribution will help fund travel expenses including gas, airfare, Uber fees, and public transit fares, lodging expenses through VRBO, food expenses, group participation fees for Professionals in Sports Night, all activities associated with the Ultimate 76ers Experience and networking events in New York City.
