We want to share what is happening right now to families here in Saint Paul:

People—many with legal status, citizens, or green card holders—are being detained by ICE in their homes, at work, and in everyday places like grocery stores and school drop-offs. Currently, they are taken from St. Paul to be held in detention centers in Texas. Their loved ones are left trying to find them, secure legal help, and cover emergency costs they cannot afford.

These families are living paycheck to paycheck. They have no savings for lawyers, bond, or travel. They are frightened, disoriented, and trying to keep their children safe while their lives are turned upside down.

Neighbors are caring for one another—walking and driving children to school, overseeing school arrival and dismissal times, delivering groceries and other essentials to the many families sheltering in place, standing watch outside small businesses, bearing witness with nothing but whistles, as armed agents kidnap our friends and neighbors.

The need here is greater than what neighbors alone can carry, because it is happening everywhere and all at once. And as it continues and families continue to shelter in place, and immigrant businesses shutter to protect employees, the economic impact on our communities grow exponentially.

We are asking for financial support to help cover immediate and emergency needs for Saint Paul families affected right now. We have a big lift. We know people need all kinds of financial assistance. We are working with mutual aid groups and through schools to identify families and get them what they need.
