Since the agency’s beginning in 2003, originally named Montachusett Interfaith Hospitality Network, we have helped more than 350 families with children experiencing homelessness find safety, security, and hope.

North Star Family Services operates two locations for families in need:

Bonnie’s Place: Bonnie’s Place provides temporary shelter, food, and comprehensive case management services to guide families to stability and self-sufficiency in permanent homes. The shelter is named in honor of our founder, Bonnie Hathaway.

Families come to Bonnie’s Place in crisis, not knowing where they will sleep or what they may eat. They are welcomed into the shelter by staff trained in trauma-informed care. Each family works with a case manager to overcome their individual barriers to housing security and become stable and self-sufficient in permanent homes.

Journey Home: Over the years, it has become increasingly difficult for families to find affordable housing once they graduate from our program. The administration undertook the monumental task of creating permanent supportive housing to address this challenge. Journey Home is a 15-unit apartment complex that will provide affordable housing and supportive services to help families maintain independence. Families will move in this August.
